Symbiosis Centre for Research and Innovation (SCRI), established in 2009, is the dedicated department of SIU for promoting and facilitating research among students and faculty. Through its academic and administrative services, SCRI enables researchers to achieve excellence in their work, and eventually, translates SIU’s vision of creation of knowledge for the benefit of the Society into reality.
Main focus of SCRI
- To develop institutional research agenda and to formulate policies to nurture quality research culture within the University.
- To create and enhance the knowledge of the disciplines, by establishing minimum standards for research activities at SIU.
- To build research capacity and mentor researchers and facilitate research endeavours at SIU.
- To set up systematic procedures for administration of research programmes.
- To translate research outcomes into tangible benefits to the society in terms of technological, economic and social gains.
SCRI administers and looks after Ph.D. Programme at SIU in addition to various support-services related to Research Projects, Publications, Conferences, Collaboration, Research Centres, Intellectual Property and Ethical conduct in research.

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) offers Ph.D. programmes under the guidelines prescribed by the University Grants Commission (2022) in the faculties of Law, Management, Computer Studies, Medical & Health Sciences, Media & Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences and Engineering .
The University predetermines the number of doctoral students that can be admitted to the programme based on the number of available research Supervisors.
The University aims to maintain high research standards, and with this goal in mind, and as per the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.PHIL./PH.D Degrees) Regulations, 2016, SIU followsa specific criteriafor selection of Ph.D. students. All rules and guidelines related to the SIU's Ph.D. Programmes are available in SIU's Ph.D. Rule Book.
To build a research culture, knowledge generation, wealth creation, social mobilization and interdisciplinary approach, the University has made provisions of awarding Junior and Senior Research Fellowships. Ph.D. Scholars' research projects are supervised by Ph.D. Supervisors, who are full-time Faculty members of SIU, and are recognized by the RRC of the respective Faculty of SIU as research Supervisors.
They supervise the work of the Ph.D. Scholar,who may be selected as SIU's Junior Research Fellow. Supervisors may recommend the inclusion of co-supervisors, who are experts in certain areas, to the Faculty RRC for approval.Deserving JRFs can also be offered a Senior Research Fellowship.

Ph.D. Induction 2023
The Induction for Ph.D. students of the 2023 (Second Round) batch was held on February 27-28 2024, at SMCW, Lavale Campus. The induction started with an address by Vice-Chancellor Dr. R. Raman Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SIU.
Dr. Dinesh Amalnerkar, Renowned Scientist addressed the students on the topic " Research Perspectives: Attitude and Aptitude". Dr. Dinesh Katre, Former Senior Director- C-DAC, Pune also addressed the gathering on "Ph D Research and the Art of Mountaineering ". Dr. Vasant Bang, Director, Delta M, R & D, Research Lab, Pune conducted sessions on "Critical Thinking and Systematic Literature Review".

The Deans of the Faculty addressed the gathering informing about their faculty and coursework. Dr. Ruchika Kaul-Ghanekar, Director, SCRI welcomed the dignitaries and Dr. Sanjay Pohekar, Head, Research Programmes proposed the vote of thanks. More than 170 students attended the two-day Induction.
Dr. S.D. Pohekar, Head Research Programmes, SCRI, SIU delivered talks on "Ph.D. Roadmap" and "Essential of Writing Research Proposal". Dr. Yogesh Patil, Head, Research Publications conducted a session on "Research Publications ".
Dr. Prasoom Dwivedi, Head, Research Projects and Funding conducted a session on " Extramural Research Grants and Project Formulation". Dr. Ruchika Kaul- Ghanekar held a session on " Research Ecosystem at SIU" A session on "Introduction to Intellectual Property Rights" was conducted by Dr. Anand Shindikar, Head, IPR, SIU.
A session on Role of Statistical Techniques and Reporting of Findings was conducted by Dr. Vishal Pradhan, Statistician, SCRI. A session was conducted on "Effective Use of Library Resources" Dr. Sangita Paliwal Librarian, SIU. A two-hour lively question- answer session was also conducted.
