Director's Message

Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Shashikala Gurpur, with an illustrious career over 33 years in teaching, research and industry, has been with SLS, Pune since 2007 as a Director, Symbiosis Law School and Dean faculty of Law, SIU. She is a distinguished academician and orator, national merit scholar, University topper in LLM, holds PhD in International Law and has an extensive teaching experience in National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, Manipal University and National University Ireland. In March 2024, she received the Distinguished Woman Achiever Award from the Society of Indian Law Firm (SILF).

She was featured amongst the illustrious 100 women personalities in the book "The Phenomenal She” launched by the Indian National Bar Association. She is Former Member of Law Commission of India, National Judicial Academy and Bar Council of India and was listed among 100 legal luminaries of India in 2016 by LexisNexis. Dr. Shashikala Gurpur has been conferred the Annual Kittur Rani Chennamma Award,2018-19 by the Government of Karnataka for her excellent achievement in the field of education and contribution to women empowerment.

Dr. Gurpur has more than 85 publications (20 Scopus/WoS) and presented more than 335 invited lectures, workshops on Gender Literacy, Human Rights, Media Literacy and seminars across India, Thailand, US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Canada and UAE. She is a pioneer of EU Legal Studies in India. She is a member of Sector Specific Group for ‘Digital and Creative Economy (DCE)’ in GoI, Ministry of Education Department of Higher Education also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the WBNUJS, member of the Academic Council at MNLU, Aurangabad, resource person at NJA, Bhopal and PhD referee to many NLUs, JNU Delhi, Mumbai and many state universities.

She is awarded with the most coveted professional achievement “Jean Monnet Chair Professor for EU Climate Justice Law, Governance, Management and Policy (EUC-LAMP)” Co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. She is a team member of global evaluation and accreditation IALS, USA. She has guided 15 PhD, 100+ master’s thesis and currently she is guiding 7 PhD. She is also the lead in the SPARC project, 4 EU Grants, NADFM training and MCCIA committee. She has successfully led the Symbiosis Law School Pune to be among top 5 in India, robust internationalization, quality academics and research resulting in replication in NOIDA, Hyderabad and Nagpur.

Dr. Chandrashekhar Jayvantrao Rawandale graduated from the University of Pune with LL.B. degree, moving on to complete Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Law & Human Rights from Department of Law, University of Pune (1997); Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Commercial Law from Cardiff Law School, Cardiff University (UK) (2003) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in ‘Computer Programs: Copyright and Patent Paradigms- A Study’ from Symbiosis International University, Pune (2010).

Dr. C J Rawandale has worked as ‘Research Associate’ at I.L.S. Law College for a year where he also taught Law of Torts. He worked with Bharati Vidyapeeth’s New Law College for two years as a ‘Lecturer’, before moving to Symbiosis Law School, Pune in 2000 and continuing. He was a ‘Visiting Fellow’ at Cardiff Law School, Cardiff University, Wales – UK (December 2003), Leibniz University Hannover, Germany (October-December 2008) and Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland (January - February, 2019).

Dr. C J Rawandale was member of 'Project Review and Steering Group (PRSG)' constituted by Department of Information Technology, Government of India for the project “Cyber Crime related Capacity Development and ICT Training for the Judiciary in States of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram & Sikkim” by CDAC, Kolkata under Cyber Security Grant-in-Aid Programme.

Dr. Sunil George is the Director at Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad, a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune. With a distinguished career spanning over 27 years in both academia and administration, Dr. George has made significant contributions to the legal and educational fields. Before joining Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad, Dr. George served as Dean of School of Law at MIT WPU, Pune. His leadership roles extend to being the Dean of the School of Law at Vijaybhoomi University in Karjat, Principal at IFIM Law School, Bangalore and Law School at Amity Law School, Kolkata, and was also associated with NMIMS School of Law.

Dr. George’s corporate experience spans 14 years in administration and legal departments at notable organizations, including Aker Powergas Private Limited, Capita Offshore Services, TCG Software Services, Bharti Airtel, and Indiainfo.com. He later transitioned to academia, dedicating the last 13 years to shaping future legal professionals. His expertise encompasses Business Law, Company Law, Contract Law, Corporate Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions, Property Law, Criminal Law, and Constitutional Law. Dr. George has presented papers in National & International Conferences & Seminars and has published papers in various journals of National & International repute.

Beyond academics, Dr. George is passionate about environmental conservation, actively engaging in efforts to protect rivers, water bodies, mangroves, and natural habitats, particularly in the Charkop area of Mumbai. Dr. Sunil George’s extensive background in both the corporate world and academia, combined with his research and leadership roles, makes him a prominent figure in legal education in India.

Prof. (Dr.) Sukhvinder Singh Dari is the Director of Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur. Prof. (Dr.) Sukhvinder Singh Dari has been with Symbiosis Law School, since 2007. Prior to joining the Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur he was with Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad as a Deputy Director (Since Inception 2014-19), with Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA (Since Inception 2010-14) and Symbiosis Law School, Pune (2007-10).

He holds a Ph.D. in Corporate Laws from Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune. He is an alumnus of Symbiosis and has done his LL.M (Business Law) from Symbiosis Law School, Pune. He had pursued his BA. L.L.B from RTMN University and holds a Diploma in Human Resource Management & Labour Laws, and Diploma in Corporate Mergers and Acquisition.

He has been awarded the Certificate of Appreciation by the Disability Rights Advocacy Group (DRAG) for his valuable contribution and tireless efforts towards the Rights of a persons with disabilities. He is a recipient of the Award for “Academic Excellence” contribution to the legal fraternity at Legal Desire Summit & Awards, 2018. He has also been awarded a Certificate of Excellence for International Paris Summit Climate Change Program (Centre for United Nation 2016).

He has been a resource person at the Andhra Pradesh Human Resource Development Institute, Telangana Police Academy, UGC HRD (University of Hyderabad) and other distinguished forums. He is the Member of Board of Studies, Academic Council, Internal Committee for Differently Abled and Board of Examination at Symbiosis International University. He has many articles in Scopus journals/research papers, and books to his credit. He has National and International publications widely in the area of Company law in leading journals and books.
