Symbiosis Society's Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum and Memorial
Dr. Maisaheb Ambedkar wife of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar has generously donated all the personal belongings of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar to the Symbiosis. Some of the important artefacts are the urn containing his sacred ashes, the coveted Bharat-Ratna award together with the citation, the bed on which he breathed his last, the table & chair on which he used to sit while writing the Constitution of India, which has a sacred touch of Dr. Ambedkar.
After receiving these, Dr. S. B Mujumdar, Founder & President, Symbiosis decided to erect a memorial and museum of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, who was a great son of India and does not belong to a single caste or creed. All Indians have affection and respect for him.
One of the objectives of this museum and memorial is to introduce Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, who initiated the movement for social justice and equality in India to the foreign as well as Indian students so as to inspire them when they return to their home lands.
The foundation stone for this memorial was laid on April 14, 1990 - in the year of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth-centenary by the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra Hon'ble Mr. Sharad Pawar.
This memorial which is now a prominent land-mark in the city of Pune was inaugurated on 26th November, 1996 by the then Vice - President of India His Excellency Shri K. R. Narayanan.
Considering the increasing number of visitors, we had depicted six important historical events from the life of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. These events are highlighted by giving special light, sound and visual effects.
Apart from present museum & memorial, Symbiosis has also established a magnificent library "Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Library", which was inaugurated on 21st November 2015 by the Former President of India Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Patil.
This museum & memorial along with the library is a "Prerana Bhumi" to those who visit this sacred place.
