ABOUT

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU) is a multi-disciplinary university offering its students and faculty a vibrant learning ecosystem designed around its multi-cultural and innovative ethos. Established in 1971 by Prof. Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, it is a ‘home away from home’ for International students. The Institution is based on the principles of Vedic thought of "World as One Family". The University's name fittingly captures the quintessence of the relationship with International students; a mutually beneficial bond between India and the International student community. Symbiosis is committed to building international understanding by offering quality education, and is resplendent of the activities and students of more than 85 countries.

Established as a Deemed-to-be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, the University has been awarded the prestigious ‘Category 1’ status under the Graded Autonomy Regulations 2018. Acknowledged by national and international rankings for its quality learning ecosystem, SIU is the second best private university in QS India 2020 ranking, 38th in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2021 University ranking, ranked amongst the top 10 in the Self-Financed/Private category of universities in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements 2021 (ARIIA), ranked between 291 and 300 in QS ASIA 2020, and 14th in QS 2020 All India Ranking by Subject (Business & Management).

SIU is geographically spread across Pune and four off campus centres at NOIDA, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Nagpur; and comprises eight disciplines/Faculty, and seven research centres in critical/ emerging fields including Advanced Legal Studies and Research, Stem Cell Research, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Medical Image Analysis, Behavioural Studies, Waste Resource Management, and Applied Artificial Intelligence. It also has nine support departments (including those for emotional wellbeing, entrepreneurship and innovation, alumni engagement, sports, recreation and wellness) and eleven skills and continuing education departments in critical areas such as leadership development, corporate education, skill development and yoga.

e-VidyaBharati

Under e-VidyaBharti and e-ArogyaBharti Network Project (e-VBAB Network Project), tele-education & tele-medicine services from India shall be offered to African countries through a specially developed web based platform hosting two separate tele-education and tele-medicine portals.

The e-VBAB Network Project will be completely funded by the Government of India for its entire duration.

Memorandum of Understanding have been signed by M/s TCIL, the implementing agency with Benin, Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Republic of Guinea, Zambia, Sudan, and Uganda.

Tele-Education Services

• The e-VBAB Network Project shall provide for setting up a Learning Centre in each selected University in the participating African countries. The Learning Centre shall be equipped with computers, TV Monitor, high speed scanner, audio system, cameras, internet connection, furniture and any other items essential for providing Tele-Education services;
• Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolling under various programs being offered in the project. These include, short-term courses, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and continued medical education. The scholarship will cover the tuition fees to attend an Indian university that will award the certificate or the degree.

The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) is a part of the Department of Continuing education and Skill Development (CESD). Presently the CESD offers 3 Under Graduate Programs (UG) and 8 Post Graduate Programs (PG).

• Quadrant 1 (e-tutorial)
  Contains Video and Audio Content in an organized form, Animation, Simulations, Video Demonstrations, Virtual Labs, etc, along with the transcription of the video.


• Quadrant 2 (e-Content)
  Contains comprise of self-instructional material, e-Books, Illustrations, Case Studies, Presentations, etc., and also contains web resources such open sources.


• Quadrant 3 (Discussion Forum)
  This is for peer learning wherein the faculty may give a case study or raise a Question for discussion.


• Quadrant 4 (Assessment)
  Contains MCQs, Problems, Quizzes and assignments.
