A pioneer in Liberal Arts education, SSLA is the first institute in India to offer a four-year full-time degree in Liberal Arts.
SSE provides a comprehensive educational experience, dedicated to cultivating intellectual discipline, critical thinking, and analytical prowess, fostering a learning environment committed to academic excellence and freedom. The curriculum at SSE is rigorous and globally benchmarked, emphasizing the descriptive and investigative approaches to connect students with various economic realms, encompassing micro, macro, and global paradigms. The educational journey encourages dynamic engagements, incorporating research, internships, community projects, and semester exchanges with leading universities worldwide, thereby facilitating a holistic learning experience.
The 370 courses across 20 disciplines at SSLA are categorized into Core (Foundational and Skill Enhancement courses); Majors (where 10 courses have to be pursued within a specialisation, along with a mandatory Internship and a focus on research); Minors (where 6 courses have to be pursued within a specialisation); and Electives that bring the inter, trans, and multidisciplinary perspectives. Focused on research with the requisite components of internship and community engagement, SSLA students are prepared to pursue careers of their choice be it in higher studies, leadership in the corporate world, or engaging with the communities we live in.
SSLA helps students develop essential 21st-century skills that allows allow them to seamlessly enter the workforce and gain meaningful career and life choices. A globally valued 4-year programme, internationalization and community engagement are our USP. With a 1:20 faculty-to-student ratio, the programme at SSLA seeks to provide a cultural orientation to the world we live in, and equip students with ideas, analytical and communication skills, global perspectives, as well as the ability to synthesize knowledge and make informed value judgments.

Director's Message
Dr. Shweta Sinha Deshpande has a Ph.D. in Archaeology and has contributed to archaeological and associated anthropological research through an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach. She has been associated with Liberal Arts education for more than a decade. She has an in-depth and keen understanding of this model and the value addition this model offers to the world and India’s growing population dividend, the globalized industry and the service sector.
Her current research focus is on Globalization and its influence on the socio-cultural space including religion, trends in migration, education and development.
The thrust of her research is on interactions between individuals and cultures, both modern and ancient. Her work has led her to conclude that the key to understanding current social issues is to recognize the often-unrealized cultural baggage that people carry. She has authored many research articles and books and was the founding President of the India Big History Association, a founding Member of the Society for South Asia Archaeology (SOSAA), and a member of the Executive Committee of the Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She currently serves on the Editorial Board of Migration Letters an international journal on migration.
