SSE welcomed me to the Oxford of the East: a city brimming with youth. The opportunity to meet different people with different interests and yet have the feeling of togetherness, this is what SSE gave me. From submissions to working for Equilibria, from Ethnic day to Economist of the Year, three years went by like a breeze. It opened up my thinking spectrum with courses of Economics, finance and even Liberal arts.

I am Girish Sharma, a 2022 graduate from the Symbiosis School of Economics (SSE). Currently, I am working as an independent consultant at The World Bank and Strategies2scale. Prior to this, I was working at TresVista, where I worked with US private equity firms.

SSE’s program structure and curriculum sets up any aspiring graduate for an all-round, holistic learning experience with a lot of opportunity to explore individual interests in economics’ vast variety of subjects. With a mix of lectures, assignments and unique projects, every course is highly interesting, and helps build a strong foundation for a career in economics and many other associated fields.

Being a student of SSE, I feel it has provided me that platform where I not only got a chance to learn economics in a more innovative and comprehensive manner but also identifying my interests and potentials in the field. I came from an economics background in my undergrad, but SSE gave me a different perspective, interesting courses, helpful teachers, diverse batch mates, guest lectures by eminent personalities.

Discipline, Hard-work and Perseverance is the only way to success. SSE has taught me to fight for everything (in the good sense). Nothing was served on the plate. I had to work hard for everything. Also, the fond memories would be a huge takeaway from SSE.

Humility and hardwork are my top takeaways.

Knowing only my love for economics, I joined SSE. Two years at SSE took me through self-doubt and tested my love. But, finally I came out surer of my subject and with a clearer purpose.

I came from a completely theoretical background, where my knowledge and learnings were restricted to books. The greatest take away from SSE has been the exposure to the practical knowledge. With several guest lectures for every paper and for topics beyond syllabus, my learnings have enhanced to a great extent.

The biggest take away from SSE for me is “Thinking beyond Books”. Before coming to SSE I was very much accustomed to a world where exams were all about studying books and pouring it out on the exam paper. However, those theories actually became clear when our faculty at SSE connected those theories to the real world.

Two years at SSE prepared me to handle the pressures of both the academic and professional worlds. The exam pattern, assignments, group work, and support from various professors shaped me into the person I am today: confident, knowledgeable, and courageous in the face of unknown challenges. Sincere thanks to Dr. Jyoti Chandiramani and the other faculty members for unknowingly changing the lives of SSE students.

SSE has given me the platform to learn, develop and excel. The institute has not just guided me to be an able Post graduate but has trained me very well as a professional for the world outside. My confidence, my leadership and my knowledge got a widespread exposure through the guidance of our director Dr. Jyoti Chandiramani and all our professors, who are extremely supportive and have constantly been our saviors.
